Caring for emerald, honestly
The short answer: Emerald is a 7.5 on the Mohs scale with natural fissures that are almost always filled with oil or resin. It is not a fragile stone, but it is a stone with rules: no ultrasonic cleaner, no steam, no solvents, and a bezel or protected setting if you wear it daily.

Why the oil matters
Nearly every emerald on the market has had cedar oil or a polymer worked into its surface reaching fissures. This is normal, disclosed, and stable under ordinary conditions. Heat and ultrasonic vibration are what drive it out, and once it goes, the fissures turn white and visible.
Everyday practice
Warm water, mild soap, a soft brush. Take the ring off for cleaning products and hot tubs. Store it away from harder stones so nothing scratches the table.
Re oiling
If an emerald starts to look tired after some years, it can be cleaned and re oiled at the bench. We do it for free on anything we set, for as long as you own it.
