Resetting an heirloom stone
The short answer: A stone you inherited can be moved into something you will actually wear. We unset it, examine it under the loupe, tell you honestly what it is, and build the new piece around it. The stone stays. Everything else can change.
The first conversation
Bring the piece as it is, chipped prongs and all. We look at the stone loose before we promise anything, because old settings hide chips, and a chip changes what is possible.
What we can and cannot do
We can move almost any stone into almost any mount. We cannot make a shallow old mine cut look like a modern brilliant, and we will not recut a stone with real history without saying plainly what will be lost.
Keeping the old mount
We return it, always, in the box. Some people have it made into a pendant. Some keep it in a drawer. It is not ours to melt.
